The City of White Plains ordered the existing garage building to close in 2010 because of structural problems. This five-level parking garage was located on the northeast corner of Waller Avenue and Lyon Place in downtown White Plains. The garage was built in the early 1960’s, and abuts a senior citizen residence (“The Esplanade”) on its east side. The residence building and City shared the existing garage when it was open. The residence will have rights to two levels of the new garage.
The current garage sits on a site that is approximately 230′ long and approximately 162.5′ wide along Waller Avenue (narrower abutting The Esplanade). The City is planning to rebuild in the same location with an 8-level 650 space precast concrete parking garage. The garage is across Waller Avenue from a successful restaurant and bar area, and will serve patrons of those venues as well as the residences and adjacent retail and office uses. It will be a 24-hour facility.
Walker is the architect and engineer of record for the new garage and provides architectural design, structural engineering, parking equipment design, and signage and graphics design for the garage.
