The Town of Breckenridge required a solution to satisfy growing demand and increase the parking inventory in their system. The Town engaged Walker to design a precast parking structure on the South Gondola lot site. The 6.3-acre parcel also includes additional surface parking, multi-use paths, and amenity space. The development integrated the facility into the community by aesthetically incorporating historic elements while providing access to increased parking capacity, improved intermodal transit operations, and desirable pedestrian connectivity.
The 716-space structure includes parking spaces on 3.5 supported levels, 243 additional surface spaces, and a three-bay flat slab with an end bay express D ramp circulation configuration. Sustainable features include photovoltaic solar panels, a vehicle charging station, bicycle coral, and amenity space. In addition, the team implemented a hydronic snow melt system on exposed slabs, plaza, and pathways. The City manages parking operations with an integrated license plate recognition (LPR) technology, space availability, and pay-on-foot kiosks.
