L.A. LIVE is a unique entertainment and dining venue in the core of downtown Los Angeles located across the street from the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Walker Consultants was retained to evaluate L.A. LIVE’s parking operation and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and visitor experience through functional layout and operational modifications.

L.A. LIVE is served by two underground parking facilities and several surface lots, totaling more than 3,500 spaces. Different methods of operation are employed to accommodate user groups for the large variety of attractions: restaurant patrons, cinema patrons, general event parkers, season parking pass holders, hotel guests and residents, employees, etc.

Walker’s team of experts inventoried the parking supply and analyzed the complex, dynamic operations of daily, retail, hotel, and event parkers all using the garage at the same time.

Walker presented recommendations for the owner’s consideration focused on space allocation, internal circulation, and parking equipment. The selected options included:

  • Relocating and installing lane equipment for pay-at-entry event parking and season pass parking
  • Modifying driveways, curbs, and exit lanes
  • Installing signage and pay stations that redirect patrons for a safer and more efficient exit
  • Access control device recommendations

The results of Walker’s implemented recommendations were well received by the owner and L.A. LIVE visitors.
