On July 2, Walker Consultants announced the appointment of four new company principals. Congratulations team!

 

Sean Connolly, RA, RWC, CCS (Irvine), has been promoted to Principal. Sean is Director of Building Envelope in Walker’s California offices. In the entire building envelope, Sean’s expertise includes above- and below-grade waterproofing, exterior walls (including windows and doors), and roofing for new construction and renovation projects.

 

 

 

Charles Hammond, PE, SE, CWI, LEED AP (Austin), has been promoted to Principal. Charles is a Senior Restoration Consultant in the Austin office. His diverse international and domestic background has included restoration projects, new design projects, forensic investigations, and litigation work.

 

 

 

 

David Lieb, TDM-CP (Denver), has been promoted to Principal. David is National Director of Higher Education Mobility Planning. Based in the Denver office, David focuses on parking and transportation demand management (TDM) strategies and operations at colleges and universities.

 

 

 

 

Mike Retterath, PE (Minneapolis), has been promoted to Principal. Mike Retterath is the Director of Restoration in Walker’s Minneapolis office. He is responsible for managing and coordinating restoration projects and evaluation, design, and project management.

Walker’s Brian McGann is providing subject matter expert consulting services for the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Campus as they completely replace and re-vision their access and revenue control system. The university campus includes three distinct academic districts: the stadium village (Minneapolis), St. Paul campus, and a hospital campus, all set in an urban location between the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Serving over 50,000 students and staff, the system replacement was needed as existing technologies had reached obsolescence. But rather than just replace equipment, the university saw the opportunity to critically assess what tools would best deliver a world-class parking experience for today, modernize payment and security methods, and improve flexibility as uses and technology changes.

The first phase of PCI-DSS compliant improvements and upgrades to 16 parking structures and 19 lots are underway and include introduction of License Plate Recognition (LPR), University card (Ucard) access credentials, credit-card only in-lane transactions, strategically located pay on foot cash and credit accepting stations, along with specific event-mode operations unique to the many athletic and academic events on campus.

Given it’s scope, this phase of the improvements are anticipated to continue into 2021. Future phases are anticipated to renovate permit and on-street parking, as well as improvements to parking guidance.

The Future of Driving: What We Know, What We Should Know, and What’s Next

Walker’s Carl Schneeman, Principal from Minneapolis was recently published in NPA May Issue of Parking Magazine.  In it he writes about the future of mobility in (primarily) urban areas.

Experts for years have said AV’s will eliminate the need for parking, expand transportation to masses and be a cure-all for all ecological issues related to automobiles.  Changes are happening, we can see the results in our cities, especially with regards to the slow death of taxis and growth of TNC’s (Uber and Lyft). The demand for electric vehicles and hybrids is still very low causing a halt to the shift of electric vehicles.  Technologies for AV’s are proving to be more difficult and costlier than expected and our roadways, in the US, are in such a state of deterioration that further development of this technology proves challenging.  So with all of these issues affecting the future of mobility, how do we move forward to grow the advantages for future generations of urban dwellers?  Read more here.

Andrew Vidor (Denver) has been promoted to Director of Studies.  His area of focus in the parking industry includes consulting, planning, project management, technology, basis of design, and identifying improvements for existing parking systems, consulting, and planning.

 

 

 

Carl Schneeman, PE (Minneapolis) has been promoted to Principal.  Carl is responsible for the management of projects, structural and parking design, quality reviews, specification development, and contract document coordination. He also manages and directs facility restoration projects, field surveys and testing, develops designs for rehabilitation and restoration of structures, and excels in construction administration of projects.

Moser, Bustamante, Froemming, Warner named Vice President

 

WALKER CONSULTANTS is proud to announce the appointments of four new Vice Presidents to the firm.

Dan Moser, PE, SE (Chicago) serves as the Senior Director of Restoration and oversees the firm’s forensic restoration work in the Midwest.  Dan has over 30 years of experience with specialized expertise in structural evaluations, engineering design, and restoration on a wide variety of structures ranging from 800′ tall reinforced concrete chimneys to buildings and bridges, as well as facades and parking structures.

 

Al Bustamante, PE (Houston) is the National Director of Forensic Restoration and is responsible for coordinating the firm’s activities in this arena.  Al is an expert in the evaluation, testing, and design repairs of a variety of structural, architectural, and material distress related projects. His experience includes nondestructive testing of concrete structures, computer modeling and analysis of steel and masonry structures, design of repairs for steel structures, and building envelope assessments, and investigation and repair of parking structures.

 

Scott Froemming, PE (Minneapolis) has been with WALKER since 1998 as a Project Manager and Parking Consultant.  In addition to his current position as Managing Principal, Scott has been the Project Manager for the 2200 space carpark at Eppley Air Field in Omaha, NE.

 

 

 

Jim Warner, PE (Houston) is currently serving as Director of WALKER’s Resources Group as well as Director of Operations for WALKER’s three offices in Texas (Houston East and West, Dallas).  Jim has been with WALKER since 2002 and has been involved in numerous aspects of parking structure design, including structural design, detailing, specification writing, functional layouts, budgeting, and cost estimating.
