Walker Parking Consultants was the prime designer of the 425 space 2-level below-grade cast-in-place concrete parking garage for visitors and patients to National Children’s Hospital (NCH). The garage directly connects to the new hospital building through tunnels at each level, which extend under multi-lane roadways, and accommodates loading for a public green space above and an adjacent outdoor dining area that is connected to the main hospital building.
The lighting system is LED light fixtures that provide high light levels, along with energy savings for the hospital. Light fixture lamp life for the LEDs is estimated to be approximately 20 years. Walls, ceilings, beams and columns are painted white, which increase light reflection.
NCH’s interior designer provided the theming of the hospital and connectors in the garage. Walker provided pipe posts at the connector and the fiberglass acorns slid over the pipe bollards. Pay-on-foot machines are located at connectors and pay-in-lane machines are at each of the two exit lanes.
